The Vale of Orava, whose altitude never falls under 600 meters above sea level. Rivers The river Orava is 112 km long and flows into the river Váh. The river Orava consists of the waters of White and Black Orava as well as of many tributaries: Kliňanka, Mutnianka, Veselianka, Hruštínka, Polhoranka, Oravica, Zázrivka, Studený Potok, Chlebnický, Jasenovský potok Orava Dam area: 35 km2 volume of water: 350 million m3 average depth: 15 meters maximum depth at the wall of the dam: 38 meters Cavernous objects: The Brestovská cave represents the largest cave of the region. Thermal springs Slaná Voda (salt water) – springs containing iodine and bromine Oravice- Thermal swimming pool in Oravica with natural mineralized water containing sulphur, calcite, sodium, magnesium, suitable for treatment of illnesses of moving parts, kidneys and urinary organs. The water temperature of the spring reaches 54 degrees centigrade, and the springs yields an average of 120 liters per second. Climate The coldest month of the year is january with average temperatures of minus 4 to minus 7 degrees Centigrade. The highest average temperatures prevail in July. Protection of nature in Orava. The Protected Territory of Upper Orava covers a significant part of the region, the Tatra National Park reaches into the western part of the region, and the Little Fatra National Park spreads across the Southwest Bird Island, a protected wildlife monument, provides a refuge to precious species of birds There are several turf communities over here: Klinské, Rudné near the mountain Suchá hora, Mútňanské, Tisovnica near Oravská Polhora. Puchmajer’s lake (a turf lake with a specific flora and mountainous micro-fauna) is located under the mountain Kubínska hoľa at an altitude of 1,100 meters Historical and cultural monuments Orava Castle, Museum of P.O.
